In the Absence of the Body
Ceramic objects, wooden chair, clay cup
Maison de la Culture, Diekirch, LU
2025
This installation explores the space between absence and presence, silence and speech, as well as the complex mechanisms that shape collective memory and social responsibility.
The white wooden chair, symbolizing universal innocence and emptiness, contrasts with the ceramic cup and ceramic textiles that bear traces of wear, trauma’s history, fragility, and resilience. A newspaper clipping from the 1990s provides an ironic counterpoint between the everyday problems of the privileged and the existential threats faced by those affected by war and violence. Through a subtle dialogue of materials and symbols, the work invites reflection on inequalities in access to safety, dignity and the future, as well as on the need to confront both the past and the present.

On the tip of my tongue
Bisque-fired porcelain
2025
Blue ceramic tongue as a symbol of the dual nature of speech — which can both release the truth and be restrained by fear or shame. The work explores the tension between the need to speak out and the social pressures to remain silent. In a contemporary context, it reflects on collective memory and the social responsibility to confront trauma, whether personal or historical. It reminds us that although truth is often difficult to voice, it must be spoken to allow healing and prevent the repetition of past injustices.
This work invites the viewer into an intimate and complex dialogue about the power of speech, the right to expression, and the importance of confronting uncomfortable truths as prerequisites for social justice and empathy.
