Performance Night is a site-specific event where Perforations extends an invitation to artists to present installations, experiments with light/sound/movement, various spatial interventions, models of participation with the audience, and so forth. The objective of Performance Night is twofold: firstly, to provide a platform for new performances that reflect the distinct approaches of the selected artists; secondly, to facilitate the realisation of new perspectives through research and reflection on our own practice. The emphasis is placed on innovation in terms of form, concept and aesthetic. In accordance with tradition, attendees are afforded the opportunity to witness a series of performances, which are followed by a concert. The admission fee is waived for all attendees. During the course of the evening, the participating artists will address a number of themes, including the political consciousness of the individual, the relationship between the individual and the landscape in the context of the concept of home, interpersonal relationships and biblical motifs. Furthermore, Conflict 2015, created in collaboration with Nina Kamenjarin, poses a series of sociological inquiries pertaining to the notions of “strength” and “weakness.” Through a verbal process, the performance challenges conventional notions of these concepts, exploring their limits and the endurance they require. To what extent is communication sincere, and to what degree do individuals conceal their true selves beneath the facades of socially conditioned norms, irrespective of the duration of acquaintance and the nominal depth of friendship? As a consequence of provocation, one endeavours to transcend the limitations of the “masks” and to reveal one’s personal, passive-aggressive, and unconscious identity.
